About Me
I am Maya Somayana - An Artist transmuting mindspace shards into crystallized form.
I am traveling artist originally from Russia. I create art as a way of deciphering inner experiences — a journey into the depths of the unconscious, where hidden meanings take visible form, and emotions that are weaved into patterns that resemble flowing dreams. What fascinates me the most is the process of unfolding, unpacking: from an initial sensation—ringing, blurry, yet formless and colorless—to its crystallization into an image. It's more than just drawing; it's an exploration. Where does one perception end and another begin? Where does subconscious dissolution become creation? How does each of the feeling i want to express will prow in the process of this crystallization of our dream world? My paintings for me are spatial mantras, odysseys through the fluid dimensions of consciousness. There are no rigid boundaries between light and shadow, between dream and reality. Everything is movement, energy, transformation. Here, you can recognize yourself and dissolve, find order within chaos, or shatter the familiar into fragments. Each beholder is choosing his own way which part of himself does he want to shatter or rebuild, create.I get my inspiration from meditations, my long travel around the world, from diverse experiences i have. Different time of my life i was working as painter, illustrator, scientist in physics, was tutor, bank analyst, experimental dancer, yoga teacher. I have been backpacking for 4 years in middle east, india and east asia, which has made huge impact on my art. My work resonates with contemporary surrealists, conceptual art, psychedelic graphics, tarot symbolism, . You might sense echoes of surrealist japanese illustrators, art of music bands like Tool, movies like Haiao Miyazaki. It speaks to those unafraid to look deep within, to seekers of meaning, to meditators, to explorers of reality in all its layers. The scientist in me searches for patterns in chaos, for new dimensions to explore, multiplying complexities and refining them. The mystic in me embraces freedom of expression, trusts the irrational, and experiences each vision as part of a grand dialogue with the unconscious.I work with oil, watercolor, and graphic media, allowing technique to be a guide rather than a constraint. Each painting is a pattern between worlds, a flash from the subconscious, a frozen stream of thought.
My name, Maya Somayana, carries layered meanings:
Maya - illusion.
Soma - nectar, linked to the divine and altered states of consciousness.
Yana ("path" or "vehicle") - a fulfilled and blissful journey, a way of movement and growth, ayana means also happinnes.
Together, it can be understood as: "A path through illusion toward direct experience"or "A journey through dreams, images, and sensory perception."
And i invite you to this journey into my Mindspace odyssey.
